The Calibration & Instrumentation Department (CID) is one of the active departments of the Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI), which in turn is one of the twelve institutes within the umbrella of the National Water Research Centre (NWRC). HRI was established in 1975 to take over and extend the work of the hydraulics research station, founded in 1947 and it is the oldest institute among other sister institutes in the region. Since its initiation, CID has participated in solving many problems for the Egyptian potable water and irrigation sector. The scope of services provided by CID include calibration of instruments, pumps and pumping stations, analysis of flow in water canals and networks, water hammer analysis ...etc.
the department is divided into five main branches as follows:-

CID depends on its highly experienced staff for its success together with a long updated list of instruments and computer software. CID is ready to provide its services anywhere in Egypt and we will be pleased to welcome and serve you at our department.

Scope of work and services provided by CID:-


  1. Instruments
    • Maintenance of all hydraulic instruments (velocity measurements – bed drawing – levels measurements – pressure measurements – temperature measurements – humidity measurements – wave measurements).
    • Furnishing all hydraulic test models with the required hydraulic instruments.
    • Calibration of flow, levels .... etc measurement instruments.
    • Preparing the technical specifications and setting the tender documents for all hydraulic instruments used by HRI, Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources or any other organization.
  2. Calibration of pumps and pumping stations
    • Calibration of centrifugal pumps.
    • Calibration of axial pumps.
    • Calibration of mixed flow pumps.
    • Calibration of jet pumps.
    • Calibration of multi-stage pumps.
    • Calibration of potable water pumping stations.
    • Calibration of wastewater pumping stations.
    • Calibration of irrigation pumping stations.
  3. Analysis and design of water networks
    • Design of potable water networks.
    • Design of wastewater collection networks.
    • Design of cooling towers water networks.
    • Analysis of cavitation volume in pumps.
    • Water hammer analysis and protection.
    • Preparing complete design drawings and tender documents.
  4. Calibration of hydraulic structures
    • All types of weirs and drop structures.
    • All types of barrages and gates.
    • All types of gates and water retaining structures.
    • All types of locks.
    • Turbine electrical power production plants.
    • Other similar related works.
  5. Calibration of different types of current meters
    • Propeller type velocity measurement instruments (current meters) for both model and field applications.
    • Magnetic current meter instruments.
    • Maintenance and repair of all types of current meters.
    • Preparing the technical specifications for all the required velocity measurement instruments according to the requirements of the different sectors.
